The Beginning

So I've decided to give this a whirl.  I had to use this site for a poetry class and though I am embarassed to admit, it introduced me to blogging.  Also, I recently (uh-literally two days ago!) found a fab new author and while her blog (column) is quite winded and sporatic at times, it's kind of fun to read.

Blogging:  On a recent walk with a new friend through my favorite village, she told me how she loved walking at night when everything begins to close its eyes--when life slows--when computers and televisions turn off--when laughter and kisses and hand-holding come back in style.  So when I was reading Jeanette Winterson's (the fab author!) column, it made me think of my friend's comment and how blogging is kind of like turning on the lights in your home--at night.  I know this sounds freaky, but stay with me.  The nice thing about being the blogger is that she gets to decide which blind to which window to which room to open--and even then, she controls how much.  She holds the reins.  :)  Anyway, on the flip side, reading a blog is like taking that long walk, imagining what goes on behind the doors, the windows, the blinds--but being let in a little here and there.

My English prof also speaks weekly about how she creates little ditties in her head about people she sees in public, be it at a gym or restaurant or wherever.  Hopefully, her company isn't offended when she dazes out or grabs their germed-up napkin to jot down the protagonist/antagonist in her next novel.  Blogging: she's making up their blog.  :)

This could be fun--and it will help me become a more disciplined writer (once I get into the routine).  So if you'd like to take a walk, stop by from time to time; there might be a blind open.
